December 1 marks 100 years since the establishment of the first Vegetarian Society of Russia. This is - an event of national scale. On this day, representatives of the vegetarian movement in Russia will meet vegetarians at Pushkin Square in Moscow (start at 14.00, December 1). The purpose of the meeting - to attract the public to the fact the country's existence in Russia vegetarian movement. Since the October Revolution, the Soviet government tried every means to destroy and discredit the idea of vegetarianism. Shelters for vegetarians label "adherents of western pseudo-culture", "sectarianism" and "vermin of the Soviet health" - the authorities have closed all the vegetarian society, for many years pursued the leaders of the vegetarian movement, hampered the development of medicine and the production of vegetarian foods, and destroyed the culture of the Russian vegetarian diet, planted in the minds of the population the idea that vegetarianism - not spiritual, moral life, but only vegetable diet.
